CHICAGO — Tamika Catchings scored 27 points and Shenise Johnson added 22 to help the Indiana Fever beat the Chicago Sky 100-89 in the decisive game of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Monday night.
Erlana Larkins added 18 points and Marissa Coleman had 17 for the third-seeded Fever, who won the series 2-1 and advance to face top-seeded New York or fourth-seeded Washington. Those teams conclude their semifinal Tuesday in New York.
Elena Delle Donne led second-seeded Chicago with 40 points, two short of the league’s playoff record set by Angel McCoughtry in 2010 according to STATS. The league’s MVP was 15-of-22 from the field. She averaged 12.5 points in the previous two games. Allie Quigley added 18 points for the Sky.
Catchings hit a 3 and Larkins completed a 3-point play for an 81-67 Indiana lead with 7:25 left. Coleman made a 3 with 1:05 remaining for a 93-85 lead to all but seal the win. The Fever made seven of eight free throws in the final minute.
The Fever went on a 9-2 run to take a 63-52 lead in the third.
Catchings became the first player in WNBA history to score 1,000 points in the playoffs. She now has 1,019.
Indiana led 52-47 at halftime behind Johnson’s 15 points and Catchings’ 13. Delle Donne had 21 for Chicago.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Tamika Catchings scored 22 points to help the Indiana Fever hold off the Chicago Sky 89-82 Saturday night and force a deciding Game 3 in their Eastern Conference semifinal series.
Shavonte Zellous had 16 points and Briann January added 14 for the Fever.
Courtney Vandersloot scored 19 points and Allie Quigley had 14 for the Sky. Elena Delle Donne, who averaged a league-best 23.4 points during the season, was held to 11 points on 3-for-9 shooting. Erika De Souza also scored 11 points.
January’s jumper gave Indiana a 79-78 lead with 5 1/2 minutes left. Catchings made two free throws and Marissa Coleman added a jumper to put the Fever up 85-80 with 3 minutes remaining.
Vandersloot’s layup pulled the Fever within three, but Catchings had a basket and then made two free throws with 24.9 seconds left to close the scoring.
Game 3 is Monday night in Chicago.

Courtney Vandersloot added 19 points for the second-seeded Sky in the best-of-three series. League MVP Elena Delle Donne, who was averaging a WNBA-best 23.4 points, had 14 points – 12 after halftime.
Tamika Catchings led the third-seeded Fever with 21 points and Marissa Coleman added 16.
Game 2 is Saturday in Indianapolis.
Coleman hit a 3 with 8:06 left to give Indiana a 56-54 lead, its first since the game’s early minutes. The Sky went back ahead, 59-58, on Erika DeSouza’s layup.
Jessica Breland’s putback gave the Sky a 75-71 lead with 1:23 remaining. Catchings missed a free throws with 1:13 left and also a 3 with 15.6 seconds to go.
