HALLE, Germany- Rising prospect Alexander Zverev beat seventh-seeded Viktor Troicki 6-4, 6-4 to reach the second round of the Gerry Weber Open on Tuesday.
Zverev made fewer errors and was the steadier player as Troicki managed to convert only one of six break points. Zverev took all three he had.
Teenager Taylor Fritz went out against qualifier Yuichi Sugita despite firing 15 aces. The match was halted by rain on Monday in the tiebreaker and Sugita completed a 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3 win.
Also, Florian Mayer had 11 aces in beating Brian Baker 7-5, 7-6 (3), and Malek Jaziri defeated Ricardas Berankis 7-5, 6-4.
