Russell Wilson wants to bring back the SuperSonics

Russell Wilson is about as pro-Seattle as an athlete can get.

The Seahawks quarterback, who ends almost every interview with “Go Hawks,” spoke out Monday after the Seattle City Council shot down entrepreneur Chris Hansen’s latest attempt to get an NBA/NHL arena built in the area.

The council denied Hansen’s latest request for control of part of Occidental Avenue South, down the street from where the Mariners and Wilson’s Seahawks play. The vote effectively ended Hansen’s current arena plans and severely delayed, if not ended, the city’s pursuit of an NBA and/or NHL franchise.

Seattle has been without an NBA franchise since the Sonics moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder following the 2007-08 season. Without some of Wilson’s late-game magic, it might be a long time before the city gets another shot at one.
