Brewers’ Will Smith shreds knee by taking his shoes off

If you needed another reason why flip flops are great, we just found one for you.

Brewers’ reliever Will Smith, who was expected to at least share the team’s closer role this season, tore his lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

How did that injury occur?

Apparently, it went down when Smith was taking his cleats off after a game.

“I pulled hard (on the shoe) and it stayed on,” Smith told reporters. “My knee just went up and popped. Everyone tells you there is nothing you can do about it, but you still feel like you are letting people down.”

Brewers’ manager Craig Counsell believes Smith will miss an extended period of time.

That’s a bummer for the Brewers and Smith, and it also serves as a reminder to make sure you are very careful taking off your shoes.

Or just get flip flops.
