Canucks rookies have Lip Sync Battle at charity event

The Vancouver Canucks rookies traded in their sticks and gloves for microphones and costumes on Wednesday for a lip sync battle at the team’s Dice and Ice charity gala.

Jake Virtanen sang Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee”, Jared McCann serenaded the crowd with the Backstreet Boys “I Want It That Way”, Ben Hutton went with “Barbie Girl” and Sven Baertschi finished things off with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”.

As far as karaoke song choices go, these weren’t terrible choices. Most are easy enough to sing along with and could be considered crowd favorites. It’s not like these guys picked “Bohemian Rhapsody” or “My Way”.

While the mountain connection for the Swiss Baertschi makes sense, covering “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” is a bold decision. A lot can easily go wrong with that song, but everyone at least knows the tune and can bail you out if need be.
