Everyone thought Dexter Fowler was going to be playing for the Orioles this year. Fans, reporters and even his (thought-to-be) former Cubs’ teammates were preparing for Fowler to be roaming center field in Baltimore.
Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo even wished him luck with the Orioles on Wednesday.
Well, to borrow a phrase from Lee Corso — not so fast, my friend.
Fowler didn’t let any of his teammates know he was coming back to try and help the Cubs reach the World Series for the first time since 1908.
He wanted to surprise them, which he certainly did.
