High schooler scores OT winner hours after losing father to cancer

Grab a tissue, there’s a heart-wrenching hockey story out of Connecticut.

Doug Caliendo, a senior on Notre Dame High School’s hockey team, scored the game-winning goal in overtime Wednesday just hours after losing his father to colon cancer.

“He would have said, ‘Just go out there and do what you do best,'” Caliendo told GameTimeCT.com.

After the game, Doug tweeted an acknowledgement of just how much the support from his community meant to him.
